If you’re looking for a gift for your topiary-loving friend, you can find it at Kohl Mansion in Burlingame today at the Mercy High School Alumnae Association’s Christmas boutique.

The lineup of more than 60 vendors also includes artisans and craft makers selling a huge variety of items from jewelry, Christmas ornaments and books to handmade soap, cork creations and vintage papier-mache characters.

“For some people, this is their holiday tradition,” said Carol Fraher, an organizer of the annual Christmas at Kohl Holiday Boutique, which has been going for more than 20 years.

“We try to make sure we have the whole gamut,” said Fraher, describing the items for sale.

Yet gifts aren’t the only draw to the event.

Docent tours of the holiday-decorated Kohl Mansion — a 63-room, Tudor structure built by Frederick and Bessie Kohl in 1914 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places — also are offered.

The Sweet Adelines, an all-female quartet, will stroll the site, singing Christmas carols in the classic setting, and light holiday refreshments also are available.

Fraher admits that logistics for the event — a fundraiser for scholarships for girls attending Mercy High School — can be challenging.

“The hardest part is probably the setup,” she says. Since the building is used for Mercy High School classes in the morning, and the fair setup starts at 2 p.m., “It’s a quick turnaround.”
