  • Tyler Beede will pitch for Vanderbilt in the super regional against Stanford on Friday, but was drafted by the Giants in the first round Thursday.

The Giants selected Vanderbilt right-hander Tyler Beede with the No. 14 overall pick in the Major League Baseball draft Thursday and followed it up by snagging Florida International catcher Aramis Garcia in the second round (No. 52 overall).

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Beede has helped the Commodores reach the super regionals of the NCAA tournament and will start the first game of the series against Stanford today.

This is the second time Beede is a first-round pick, as he was selected No. 21 overall out of high school by the Toronto Blue Jays in 2011. Beede is 8-7 this season for Vanderbilt with a 3.20 ERA and 106 strikeouts over 98¹?³ innings.

Garcia was the Conference USA Player of the Year after hitting .368 this season with 14 doubles, eight home runs and 37 RBIs.

Rounds 3-10 of the draft are today, with rounds 11-40 slated for Saturday.
