Speaking of calendars, might as well grab next year’s while we’re penciling in special must-see events. Because the great Celtic-punk outfit Flogging Molly has just announced the itinerary for its Eighth Annual Green 17 Tour, their regular St. Patrick’s-themed juggernaut that careens across the country each March.
Next year’s begins early, on Feb. 17, in bandleader Dave King and his wife Bridget Regan’s native Detroit, and comes to a screeching halt in Phoenix on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17. In between, Green 17 careens into Oakland’s Fox Theater on March 10.
And it’s the first major U.S. jaunt for the UK-bred King and company, who — pre-Occupy Wall Street — saw the effects of America’s nosediving economy, up close and on a daily basis in Detroit, and penned an angry, fist-shaking new album in response called “Speed Of Darkness.” And they formed their own DIY imprint to release it, Borstal Beat Records. And if you’ve never seen Flogging Molly live, do yourself a huge favor and pounce on these tickets quick when they go on sale Dec. 2 and 3 — you will not be disappointed.
