George Clooney could be moving up his wedding to lawyer Amal Alamuddin, but it won't be because they're on the run from medieval hit men.
The U.K.'s Daily Mail sputtered apologies Wednesday for a report that claimed the bride's mother opposed the match on religious grounds, since unlike Alamuddin, Clooney is not a member of what the paper called the "medieval" Druze sect of Islam.
It also predicted one hell of a honeymoon. The article, which has been scrubbed from the Internet, said "there can be harsh penalties for those Druze who marry outsiders," even death, according to the Poynter journalism institute. The Oscar winner lashed out by penning a piece for USA Today.
"If they fabricate stories of Amal being pregnant, or that the marriage will take place on the set of Downton Abbey ... I don't care," he writes.
But in addition to the report being untrue, Clooney said, "The irresponsibility, in this day and age, to exploit religious differences where none exist, is at the very least negligent and more appropriately dangerous."
U.K. magazine Closer reported the same day that the marriage will be moved up to August, presumably with no Daily Mail staffers on the guest list.
ARE EVA MENDES AND RYAN GOSLING EXPECTING?
No, those weren't the anguished cries of Dutch fans watching Wednesday's World Cup game, or even Brazilian futbol fans who need to let it go, already.

The 40-year-old actress has been "ready for motherhood for a while now," an insider told the magazine, "and to be sharing this experience with Ryan is a dream come true for her!"
