The 55,000 children enrolled in the San Francisco Unified School District are the lucky beneficiaries of a three-day week.
Students will not have school Thursday, Feb. 3 or Friday, Feb. 4, according to district officials.
In honor of the Chinese New Year, the district and its schools will be closed Thursday. Additionally, they will both be closed Friday as part of the second of four furlough days given to staff to save money.
The district faced a $113 million deficit through the 2011-12 school year. Those projections could increase depending on the state budget. To avoid layoffs, the teachers and administrators agreed to furloughs.
