Shane Joshua Lusalah, 21, of Fresno was booked into San Mateo County Jail on charges of human trafficking, pimping, assault likely to cause great bodily injury and felony vandalism.
He was arrested shortly after 1 a.m. when police received a call from the victim who originally told police that she had been beaten by her boyfriend. When officers arrived at the hotel on North Bayshore Boulevard they soon determined that the female victim was beaten by someone she described as her pimp.
Before police were called, the victim, after realizing she was being victimized and exploited, reportedly tried to call the front desk for emergency services. When Lusalah overheard her on the phone, he reportedly became enraged and grabbed the victim by her hair and threw her to the ground, police said. He is then alleged to have punched her two or three times before forcing her out of the hotel room and then tossing out her belongings too. The victim ran to the lobby of the hotel to call for help. Lusalah was arrested at the scene.
The victim told police she met Lusalah a couple weeks ago and had prostituted herself out at least 15 to 16 times in various cities and counties throughout the state. She said Lusalah controlled her through fear, took her to places she was unfamiliar with and wouldn’t let her use her cellphone.
Lusalah is alleged to have arranged many of her dates and kept the cash, police said. The victim claimed she was only given food and a place to sleep.
The San Mateo Police Department said they provided support and referrals to the victim and would remain in contact with her through the judicial process.
