Free pancakes being served on March 1

Do you like pancakes? How about ones that are free?

If you flip for flapjacks, mark this date on your calendar: March 1. That is when IHOP will be giving away free short stacks of buttermilk pancakes from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m.

Is there a catch? Sort of.

The event is to raise awareness and funds for the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, according to a press release from the organizers. The funds raised in San Francisco will go toward the Children's Hospital and Research Center Oakland.

There are two IHOP locations in San Francisco, according to the company website. (One IHOP in The City has been shuttered.) There is also a nearby location in South San Francisco.

The event has been going on since 2006, according to the event organizers. Last year more than 4 million free pancakes were served, and patrons of the event donated more than $2.1 million to the charities.

More information can be found at the National Pancake Day Celebration website.
