“Don’t believe your own publicity,” Leif Garrett says to Justin Bieber. Fox talked with the former teen idol about J-Bib’s fame. “When you’ve got that sort of power at that young age, and everything at your doorstep, you put out that bad boy image. … Testosterone, hormones, all of the money, you see what else you can get away with.” (Peeing in a mop bucket? Check.)
Garrett also has had some stronger words of warning: “Sussing out who your real friends are is full-time work. Every scumbag, every drug dealer, every chicken hawk wants a piece of you.” One thing Garrett left out was how horrible the inevitable plummet from the spotlight can be.
There’s a five-year arc for teenyboppers, and Biebs started in late ’09. He’s got about one year left.
