Four firefighters injured battling four-alarm blaze in Mission district

Four firefighters were injured battling a Mission district blaze Sunday, the fire department said. The fire was nearly contained as of 11:30 a.m.

The fire was first reported at Duboce and Valencia streets about 9:51 a.m. The fire went to four-alarms within 15 minutes, the department said.

One resident was transported to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. One of the firefighters was treated for an injury to their foot while three others were injured when a stairwell collapsed.

Officials at the scene said the injuries appear to be nonlife-threatening. The four firefighters were transported to the hospital for evaluation.

As of 11:30 a.m. the intersection is still closed to traffic. The cause of the fire is still undetermined and the investigation is ongoing, officials said.

The blaze reportedly displaced 20 to 25 people.
