  • Lowell High School in the City was honored by National Blue Ribbon Schools for high academic achievement.

Two San Francisco and two Peninsula public schools were nominated for the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program, which recognizes the country’s best or most-improved schools.

The City schools were Alice Fong Yu Alternative and Lowell High. On the Peninsula, the state nominated North Star Academy in the Redwood City Elementary School District and Woodside Elementary in the Woodside Elementary School District.

To be nominated, schools must be in the 85th percentile on statewide tests or among the top 10 percent of schools with a large disadvantaged student body showing improvement over the past five years.
