Former San Bruno chief named interim top cop in East Palo Alto

Former San Bruno Police Chief Lee Violett has been appointed as interim chief of the East Palo Alto Police Department.

Violett, who will assume the role effective Jan. 21, will replace current interim Chief Federico Rocha, who has reached the maximum number of annual hours allowable for a retiree to work for the city, City Manager Magda Gonzalez said.

“I want to both welcome our new interim Chief Lee Violett, and express the city’s gratitude and appreciation to interim Chief Rocha for his dedicated service in this role,” Gonzalez said. “Mr. Violett will step into this position having performed similar duties as interim chief in a number of police departments in the area, including the cities of Millbrae, Half Moon Bay and most recently in Menlo Park.”

Violett served as San Bruno’s police chief for eight years, before retiring in 2006 with more than 30 years of experience in municipal law enforcement.
