A taxi ran a red light downtown Monday afternoon and put five people in the hospital, police said.
According to Officer Samson Chan, police received a call at 2:13 p.m. Monday of a cab heading southbound on Powell Street, running a red light at Powell and Pine streets. The cab struck a PT Cruiser, which spun out of control, hitting two pedestrians. Meanwhile, the cab continued downhill on Powell until it finally struck a fire hydrant and a building near Powell and Bush streets.
The cab driver, the two people in the PT Cruiser and the two pedestrians were hospitalized with injuries not considered life-threatening. The cab driver was evaluated for sobriety, Chan said.
