When it comes to reality TV and game shows, it’s a matter of luck for contestants. But when it came to the MLB Fan Cave, it was a matter of support for Giants fan Ally Williams.

The 21-year-old San Jose resident received enough votes from Major League Baseball fans to qualify her for the next round in her bid for a spot in the Fan Cave.

Voting, which took place online, allowed people to choose their favorite of 50 fans selected by the MLB to be in this season’s Fan Cave. Williams and another Giants fan, Ashley Chavez, were chosen as semifinalists.

Fan Cave is billed as a “first-of-its-kind immersive fan experience” in which contestants watch all 2,430 games in the 2012 season. Throughout the season, contestants will use blogs, videos and social media to chronicle their experiences. They will also meet and chat with players.

Williams is one of the 30 semifinalists who flew to Phoenix, where spring training recently started, for a “boot camp” this week that could secure her a spot in the Fan Cave.

Williams said she was in shock the day before she left.

“It doesn’t feel like I’m going to be getting on a plane and going to Phoenix,” she said. “It was always going to be a surprise whether or not I made it. There were so many great videos.”

Williams doesn’t know what’s in store. To prepare, she’s brushed up on the latest baseball news and even reviewed some of the greatest moments in the game’s history.

“I’m mentally preparing,” Williams said. “It’s going to be 48 hours of who knows what.”

The final contestants chosen to move into the Fan Cave in New York are expected to be picked next week, according to the MLB.

“I’m ready to go now,” Williams said.
