Been wondering whether your block has ever been featured in a movie? Don’t worry, your government has your back.
The San Francisco Film Commission has compiled a list of 857 San Francisco locations that have been captured on film in San Francisco, and has provided that list to DataSF.
The list includes the name of the film, the year it was made, the locations it was shot, and the writers, directors, producers and actors in the film.
The list includes classics such as “Dirty Harry,” shot in Chinatown, Dolores Park, The Embarcadero and Kezar Stadium, among other places, as well as lesser known films like “Vegas in Space,” shot in part under Highway 101. The list of locales includes favorite local watering holes like Edinburgh Castle (“So I Married an Axe Murderer”) and venues of other varieties such as Lusty Ladies Bar (“Live Nude Girls Unite!”).
The City has been encouraging computer developers to take the information posted on DataSF and turn them into clever apps, so don’t be surprised if you find these movie locale details on your iPhone one of these days.
