Ferrera, Efron win family TV awards 

The ABC series "Ugly Betty" and the Disney movie "High School Musical 2" were double winners Wednesday night at the ninth annualFamily Television Awards.

America Ferrera won Best Actress honors for playing the title character on "Ugly Betty." The series also won Best Comedy.

Teen heartthrob Zach Efron won Best Actor for playing Troy Bolton in "High School Musical 2," which took the Best Movie Musical Award for the second installment on the continuing adventures of the East High Wildcats.

The awards are given by the Family Friendly Programming Forum, an initiative of the Association of National Advertisers dedicated to promoting family-friendly programming during prime time.

A broadcast of the ceremony will air at 9 p.m. Dec. 27 on the CW Network.

Other winners include: Drama, "Heroes"; Actor, Kyle Chandler; Miniseries or Special, "Planet Earth"; New Series, "Pushing Daisies"; Cable Series, "Kyle XY"; Reality Series, "Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader?"; and Favorite Newcomer, Zachary Levi.
