Fatal car crash shuts parts of Interstate 80 in San Francisco

A person was killed and two others were injured in a solo car crash Saturday night in San Francisco, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

Officers responded to a report of a car crashing into a wall on westbound Interstate 80 at the Fifth Street off-ramp about 10:05 p.m. Saturday, Officer Peter Van Eckert said.

Three people were inside the car at the time of the crash, Van Eckert said. One of the passengers was not breathing when crews arrived and received CPR, according to Van Eckert.

That person was taken to a hospital, but was later pronounced dead. The other two passengers suffered injuries in the crash, but Van Eckert did not know their conditions Sunday.

The CHP blocked off the Fifth Street off-ramp on westbound I-80 for about an hour to investigate the crash, Van Eckert said.
