A vigilante with a gold badge threatened to ticket a double parker in the Ingleside District of San Francisco, but was himself cited for impersonating police after he was later found sleeping on the sidewalk, police said.
Police were dispatched to the 100 block of Kingston Street in the Bernal Heights neighborhood at 8:45 p.m. Friday, where a resident reported having been approached by a man the day before who “flashed a badge and told the victim that he could not double park his vehicle,” police said.
The badge-flasher told the resident “the next time he would ticket him,” cops said.
According to officers, the next day, the resident found the man sleeping on the sidewalk, and confronted him about his police credentials, the man replied that he works with police and “they all know me.”
When approached by officers, the suspect pulled up his shirt to reveal a gold badge, but was cited for impersonating an officer and his badge was seized as evidence, police said.
