Former San Francisco 49er Kwame Harris has been sentenced to five days in jail and three years of probation for assaulting a boyfriend outside a restaurant last year.

The San Mateo Daily Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1gNsebB) that Harris also was ordered Friday to undergo 104 hours of domestic violence counseling and to pay $700 to a shelter for battered spouses and to a domestic violence fund.

A San Mateo County jury convicted the former lineman last month on misdemeanor charges of domestic violence, battery and assault for the August 2012 attack on Dimitri Geier.

According to testimony presented at Harris' trial, he pinned Geier against a window and punched him in the head and face. Geier suffered several facial fractures that required surgery.

Harris' defense lawyer, Alin Cintean, told the Daily Journal he plans to appeal the conviction.
