The Environmental Protection Agency may only be a C-list celebrity, but it suffered some A-grade embarrassment this week.

“I’m now a C-list celebrity in Kim Kardashian: Hollywood,” the EPA’s Office of Water tweeted Monday night. “Come join me and become famous too by playing on iPhone!”

It was a slight departure for the agency, which usually addresses topics such as algal blooms and floodplains, but typical for rabid fans of reality-TV star Kim Kardashian’s mobile game, which is reportedly on track to earn $200 million for San Francisco company Glu Mobile.

By Tuesday morning, a chastened Office of Water tweeted, “Whoops…our bad. Sorry about tweet. Upside -more attention for the Office of Water (http://water.epa.gov ), thanks @KimKardashian.”

South of Market-based Glu did have some encouraging words for the anonymous C-list celebrity working at the EPA: “Keep at it @EPAwater, you’ll get there. #AList #WillowPapeIsTheWorst #KimKardashianGame.”

The 88-year-old co-author of the Clean Water Act was slightly less encouraging, The Associated Press reported.

“Staff has now informed me of what a Kardashian is,” Rep. John Dingell, D-Mich., tweeted Tuesday. “I’m only left with more questions.”

Et tu, beetles?

A tree dedicated to Beatles star George Harrison’s memory has been felled, but don’t start blaming a rabid Rolling Stones fan yet.

Blame the beetles.

The Los Angeles Times reports that the 10-year-old tree planted near Griffith Park Observatory in honor of the late musician and avid gardener had to be removed last month after falling victim to a beetle infestation.

But all things must pass, and a new memorial tree is scheduled to be planted soon.
