Elementary and intermediate schools closed, Capuchino HS remains open

All primary schools in San Bruno are closed Friday but a high school in the city remains open following the devastating explosion and fire that rocked the community Thursday night, according to the school district.

The eight schools in the San Bruno Park School District that are temporarily closed include Allen, Belle Air, Crestmoor, El Crystal, John Muir, Portola and Rollingwood elementary schools and Parkside Intermediate School.

A coordinator with the school district said that the district closed the schools because the power is out at these sites due to their proximity to the gas pipeline explosion that occurred at 6:15 p.m. Thursday.

“For today schools are closed. We will post more information as we get it from the city,” school district coordinator Cheryl Peruchetti said Friday morning.

The district expects to provide updates after 9 a.m. once they receive information from city officials.

School is still open at Capuchino High School in San Bruno. Capuchino is a part of the San Mateo Union High School District, according to the school’s website. The school planned to provide support services to students as of 7:45 a.m. in the campus library.
