Elderly woman victim of Bernal Heights homicide, SF police say

An elderly woman died from an apparent homicide in Bernal Heights Friday night after paramedics and police grappled with a knife-wielding suspect who had stabbed himself in the neck, San Francisco authorities said.

Ingleside police reported that officers responded to the 200 block of Justin Drive at 9:20 p.m. to assist the San Francisco Fire Department with a suspect who had a knife.

At the time, Fire Department paramedics were trying to revive an unconscious victim at the scene, police said.

The suspect stabbed himself in the neck before “advancing towards the fire crew in a threatening manner,” cops said. “The crew was able to wrestle the knife from the suspect.”

Police arrived and helped the paramedics strap the suspect to a medic backboard. The man was taken to San Francisco General Hospital for treatment of his wounds, according to police.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The medical examiner’s office identified her Sunday as Hao Mei Wu, 72, of San Francisco.

Police have categorized the attack as a homicide, but there was no immediate word Sunday on how Wu died. Suspect information also was not released.
