Elderly man’s McLaren Park visit not picture perfect

An elderly man taking a photograph in McLaren Park got an image of hell when he was pistol-whipped and robbed of his camera, police said.

The 76-year-old man was taking photos in the park near Mansell Street and Visitacion Avenue about 11:15 a.m. A gun-toting crook surprised the man, snatching his camera and attempting to steal his backpack, police said. The victim struggled to keep the backpack and the crook pistol-whipped him, knocking him to the ground.

The suspect fled and there was no arrest as of Monday, police said. The victim’s injuries were not serious.
