Ed Lee possibly changing his tune on San Francisco mayor’s race

Mayor Ed Lee, the interim executive who has repeatedly said he would not run for mayor in November, is now mulling a decision to jump in.

Asked Friday about whether he’s entering the race, Lee veered from his unequivocal stance to a more uncertain one.

“I have not made that decision yet,” he said.

When asked why he changed his tune on the matter, Lee’s staff and body guard ushered him through a crowd of reporters to his vehicle. Lee usually makes himself available to reporters following press conferences.

If Lee were to enter the race, he would already have a campaign working in his favor. The Run, Ed, Run campaign has already collected tens of thousands of dollars in limitless donations to pay for signs, consultants and a website all in favor of Lee being elected in November.

The deadline for Lee to enter the race as a candidate is Aug. 12.
