Ed Lee has many people to thank for his historic win as The City’s first elected Asian-American mayor, but one man stands out, he said to a gathered crowd Monday.
“I would not have had this opportunity without the work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.,” the mayor said.
Lee also took the opportunity at the MLK celebration at Yerba Buena Gardens to talk about his push for more affordable housing in San Francisco, where “all of the citizens of this city can share in the wealth.” Lee also said he wants work with new companies moving to The City to provide equal access to technology for those who have been left behind without it.
“I understand the digital divide,” Lee said. “I understand how that has left many of our communities with a gap.”
Events for the Martin Luther King holiday are set to continue through the day at Yerba Buena Center.
