Double ouch! Democrat trailing in West Virginia poll

Public Policy Polling, the North Carolina-based Democratic firm, announces a startling result in the special Senate election in West Virginia: Republican John Raese 46%, Democrat Joe Manchin 43%. This despite the fact that Manchin has the second highest job approval as governor of any incumbent PPP has tracked this year (Bobby Jindal of Louisiana is number one). But Barack Obama’s job rating in West Virginia is 30%-64% negative, and evidently a lot of Mountain State voters who are just fine with Manchin as governor don’t want him going to Washington to give the Obama Democrats another vote there.

Note: Scott Rasmussen’s most recent poll shows Manchin up over Raese 50%-43%, which leaves Manchin on average ahead by 2%.
