Dog leash proposal catches the ear of Scott Wiener

District 8 Supervisor Scott Wiener is addressing concerns about the federal government’s proposal for restricting in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area where dogs can roam without a leash.

During the Board of Supervisors meeting Tuesday he plans to introduce a request for a hearing to vet the issue before a board committee.

“We need to look at how these proposed federal restrictions impact both dog owners and people who don’t own dogs,” Wiener said. “I’m concerned that GGNRA’s proposal could cause a ripple effect throughout The City’s park system.”

By limiting space on the federally run park, more dog owners will likely opt for public spaces in San Francisco, putting a strain on those resources and increasing city costs, according to Wiener.
