An exhaustive two-year review of the San Francisco Department of Public Works’ procedures and work practices led to national accreditation.
San Francisco became the fifth Californian municipality to secure accreditation from the nonprofit American Public Works Association.
Association auditors verified that the department was following best-practice guidelines related to 306 tasks that it routinely performs, such as sidewalk repair and maintenance.
“This accreditation reflects our drive to professionalize the department and employ best practices,” department director Ed Reiskin said in a statement announcing the accreditation, “so that we can most effectively execute our mission.”
The announcement coincided with National Public Works Week, which began Sunday.
