The Senate campaign arm is now pledging to help Christine O’Donnell in the Delaware Senate race, but clearly the party is not fully behind her. In fact, it’s still running against her.
An attack website created by Castle remains up and running, bashing O’Donnell over a foreclosure, unpaid bills and a padded resume.
The site flashes unflattering tidbits about O’Donnell and asks, “How can we trust Christine O’Donnell, who has made a career out of gaming the system?”
It includes a headline for “Latest News” but that news does not include O’Donnell’s victory over Castle, whose own staff is apparently responsible for the site.
National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman John Cornyn, R-Texas, said Tuesday he was planning to give $42,000 to O’Donnell’s campaign, the maximum allowed, but made no promises about future help, hinting that the party will reserve its resources for races it believes it can win.
“In the weeks ahead, we will decide where to best allocate additional financial resources among the large number of competitive races at stake this November,” he said in a statement.
