Medical authorities told SF Weekly this morning that it was 57-year-old David Biddle's body that was found in the water at Pier 48 yesterday; however, authorities do not yet know what happened to him.
Officer Albie Esparza says the call came in yesterday just before 10:40 a.m. on reports of a body floating in the water near China Basin. The body had been there for a while, police said.
Esparza said that the cops are still waiting for the medical examiner to do an autopsy; that will determine whether Biddle's death was a suicide or a homicide. "They will tell us if it appears to be suicide, like a jumper, or if they find gunshot wounds or stab wounds, then it would be a homicide," Esparza says.
