Sgt. Michael O’Rourke said the $41,115 grant will allow the department to hold four additional checkpoints and purchase new lighting equipment.
The grant is designed to combat impaired driving by conducting additional DUI checkpoints, and it will assist in efforts already underway to reduce the number of people killed or injured in collisions related to alcohol or drugs, O’Rourke said.
Through the grant, the Daly City Police Department will be able to conduct the checkpoints and report its numbers and conditions to UC Berkeley for its data collection. Any arrests or violations resulting from the checkpoints are prosecuted and handled accordingly.
