Daily Outrage: Millions of dollars wasted on decrepit and empty buildings

WHAT: The Veterans Affairs Administration spends tens of millions of taxpayer dollars per year to keep at least 314 vacant and hazardous buildings standing. Supposedly it would cost even more to tear them down.

HOW MUCH: The General Accountability Office says the VA spent $175 million on its useless hulks every year since 2007. But the VA insists it paid “only” $85 million in 2007 and the amount dropped down to $37 million blast year.

WHY IT’S OUTRAGEOUS: Tens of thousands of Americans who served multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan are returning to the U.S. and will need costly VA services. Cash-draining abandoned buildings should be renovated, razed, sold or given away.
