Daily Outrage: Chicago terrorist suspect falls prey to FBI’s fake-bomb tactics

WHAT: Sami Samir Hassoun, 22, a Lebanese citizen living in Chicago for about three years, was arrested while allegedly placing a backpack he thought contained a deadly bomb into a trash can outside a popular sports bar just steps away from Wrigley Field.

GOTCHA: The bomb was set to explode in 20 minutes as a crowd exited a Dave Matthews Band concert. But it was a fake supplied by undercover FBI agents. The bomb consisted of a 1-gallon paint can loaded with faux plastic explosives, ball bearings and a digital timer.

HOW IT HAPPENED: In recent years, the FBI’s fake-bomb tactics have successfully headed off other terrorist attacks against American cities. It arrested suspects at a Dallas skyscraper, outside a federal courthouse in Springfield, Ill., and at two New York City synagogues.
