Daily Outrage: Bailed-out corporations spending millions on politics

WHAT: Some corporate giants rescued from financial meltdown by huge taxpayer-funded bailouts in 2008 are again courting political influence by donating millions of dollars to political causes and even for candidates’ election campaigns.

WHO: General Motors, Chrysler and Citigroup are three of the biggest bailout-takers that have returned to actively distributing money through their political action committees, federal lobbying or direct donations to the pet projects of lawmakers.

EXCUSES: The companies defend their political action committees as voluntary groups of employees supporting political causes. They claim federal lobbying is necessary to keep Congress informed of their mission, and their donations to pet projects aid good causes.
