A 56-year-old woman suffered a serious head injury Tuesday after being struck by an apparent hit-and-run driver in a crosswalk just south of Crocker Amazon Playground, according to police.

The woman was reportedly crossing at the intersection of Geneva Avenue and Prague Street when a sport utility vehicle ran a red light and struck her just before 7:30 p.m. The victim was transported to San Francisco General Hospital with life threatening injuries. Her condition Tuesday was not immediately known.

The suspect, described in preliminary reports only as a man in his 30s, fled the scene, police said,  and there was no arrest as of Tuesday.
