Craigslist ad leads to big bust for Bayview cops

A Craigslist advertisement hawking a stolen bike led to the arrest of two men in the Bayview last week, police said.

A stolen bike wasn’t all police found.

A San Ramon resident contacted Bayview Station police after seeing his bike being sold on the website.
Plainclothes cops posing as buyers arranged a meeting with the alleged crooks near their home in the 1000 block of Le Conte Avenue, police said. Once there they set up surveillance and watched as one of the suspect’s came out of the apartment building with the bike. After being confronted by cops, the suspect tried to run but was swiftly detained, police said. A second resident of the home was also arrested.

After obtaining a warrant, police searched the residence and found 2.8 grams of methamphetamine, a pipe, a cache of burglary tools, and multiple electronic devices such as GPS systems, cameras, game systems and computers. Also, a truck that was reported stolen out of Danville was discovered out front. The suspect had a key to the truck in his possession, police said.

Danville police and the owner of the truck were called to the scene and the owner identified certain items police seized as being in his truck when it was stolen, police said.

The suspects were arrested and charged with possession of stolen property, conspiracy and drug-related charges, police said.
