  • A pair of 49ers fans won tickets to Sunday's NFC Championship Game after they watched last week's win over the Saints as the wife delivered a baby.

Two dedicated 49ers fans were rewarded Wednesday for the effort they made to watch Alex Smith and company’s thrilling win Saturday against the New Orleans Saints.

Vince Cava and his wife were at the hospital awaiting the arrival of their first-born child. When she went into labor, the game was under way, but the couple didn’t stop watching. On Twitter, Cava said the doctor let the couple continue watching the game while the baby was born.

The story was enough to win them four tickets and on-field passes to Sunday’s NFC Championship Game against the New York Giants.

They were some of the thousands of fans who tweeted why they deserved tickets in a contest called by 49ers CEO and President Jed York. Stories included those of illness and dreams of attending a first game.

Cava may have set up a Twitter account just to enter the contest, as there were only three entries there Wednesday afternoon. The last: “I won the Niner tix for this weekend NFC Championship Game. Thank you to my wife and 2 day old son for taking care of Dad!”
