After years of debate, the Board of Supervisors approved the funding for installation of a wheel chair ramp for the Board of Supervisors legislative chambers at City Hall Tuesday.
The estimated $450,000 ramp had been the center of much controversy and politics.
These days, no one uses what’s known as the president’s podium in the Legislative Chamber. The Board of Supervisors president sits at a lower desk in front of it. The approved project entails work to lower the president’s podium by three steps to 12 inches above floor level with a ramp connecting to it. The lower desk, currently used by the board clerk and the board president, would be lowered to floor level.
