An unusually low-density housing project is on the verge of securing construction approvals from San Francisco officials.
An undeveloped parcel at 1 Capitol Avenue in the Oceanview neighborhood, which is next to Interstate-280 and was sold by Caltrans in 1979, is the planned new site of 28 single-family houses with 41 off-street parking spaces.
The 43,000-square-foot lot will be subdivided by the owners into 28 parcels ranging from 942 square feet to 3,317 square feet. The Planning Commission approved the project on May 13, but the Board of Supervisors must rezone the land before it can be developed.
Neighbors of the proposed project have expressed concerns about noise and traffic impacts from the project.
The Land Use and Economic Development Committee on Monday referred a proposal to rezone the parcel from a public use to a residential use to the Board of Supervisors for a vote in the coming weeks.
