Community leader works to improve Fisherman's Wharf 

Kevin Carroll, executive director of the Fisherman’s Wharf Community Benefit District, works with local businesses and residents to make Fisherman’s Wharf a safe, clean and fun destination.

What recent efforts has the district been involved in? The Public Realm Program is under way and we are working with the ... Planning Department to try and make Fisherman’s Wharf more pedestrian-friendly.

What are some recent accomplishments? Gaining consensus for the Public Realm Project has been our greatest accomplishment. We have had several meetings and now are able to move forward with a joint business-community effort.

What are some recent challenges? The Public Realm Project involves removing a parking area on Jefferson Street in order to make room for expanded walkways. Some community members expressed concern since it’s such a huge undertaking, but we ... are now moving forward with the project.

Does the benefit district have any other future plans? We are involved in marketing and planning activities for the upcoming Fleet Week event in October, which brings thousands of people to the waterfront. In addition, we are preparing for the Crab Festival in February and working with local restaurants to plan activities.
