A college student visiting family during his spring break was killed in an apparent gang-related shooting in San Francisco’s Mission district early Saturday morning, a police spokesman said.
Around 3 a.m., the 19-year-old man was walking with a friend near the intersection of 24th and Bryant streets when a car approached. A man exited the car, asked the teen if he was involved in a gang and shot him in his upper body, police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said.
The suspect fled the scene in the vehicle and the victim was taken to a hospital where he later died from his injuries, Esparza said.
“The victim was home from college visiting family during spring break when this tragedy occurred,” Esparza said in a statement.
The suspects in the shooting remain at large.
Anyone with information about the killing is asked to call San Francisco police at (415) 575-4444 or text a tip at TIP411 with “SFPD” in the beginning of the message. Callers may remain anonymous.
