Clinton to stump for Newsom, Brown

Former President Bill Clinton is coming to California next month to help buoy the democratic statewide campaigns. Clinton, who recently announced his endorsement of Jerry Brown for governor, will traverse the state with both Brown and Mayor Gavin Newsom. on Oct. 15 and 17 to give the two campaigns a final push a few weeks before Election Day.

The race for lieutenant governor is shaping up to be tight, with Newsom ahead in fundraising, but recent polls show he is in a dead heat with his opponent Republican Abel Maldonado. Details for the events have not yet been released, but the two California candidates were pleased with the news of Clinton’s support.

"Over the years, I've enjoyed a close working relationship with President Clinton and I'm honored to have his continued support in my campaign for Lieutenant Governor," Newsom said. "I'm looking forward to campaigning alongside the president next month along with Attorney General Brown. Californians will never forget his record of accomplishments and his commitment to effectively confront our most pressing issues."
