The National Park Service is expected to receive $30 million under an agreement to manage the watershed within Yosemite National Park until June 30, 2015.
The money buys such things as staffing of entrance stations controlling access to Hetch Hetchy watershed areas, patrol of the area, dam security, trail and restroom maintenance, and permits for overnight campers.
The deal was approved Wednesday by the Board of Supervisors Budget and Finance Committee. It requires approval by the full board.
The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission negotiated the arrangement. Eighty percent of the SFPUC’s water customers receive their water from the Hetch Hetchy watershed. The water is not filtered because of “the exceptionally high water quality” of the Hetch Hetchy watershed
