Planning hearings urged for proposed school changes

Supervisor Michela Alioto-Pier has drafted legislation that would require any project that would result in a change in the use of an elementary or secondary school to undergo a hearing before the Planning Commission.

The legislation is designed to protect neighborhoods from the adverse impacts of school closures.

The Board of Supervisors Land Use and Economic Development Committee will vote on the legislation today at 1 p.m., at City Hall, Room 263.

Chief Fong releases community policing report

Police Chief Heather Fong released a report Tuesday detailing the department’s community policing strategies and highlighting specific partnerships with community members to improve public safety. The report, which builds upon Mayor Gavin Newsom and Fong’s community policing plan announced in 2005, also details future policing strategies.

Small business commission

Panel promotes holiday ‘Shop Local First’ campaign

The Small Business Commission announced its annual holiday Shop Local First campaign. The campaign, which is under way, will end Saturday with 40 local businesses selling their products in Union Square.
