Chiu tackling city small-business fees

Board of Supervisors President David Chiu said he hopes to introduce legislation “in the next couple of weeks” that would eliminate from the books a number of city fees “none of us are really sure why they are being collected.”

Chiu has expressed interest in making San Francisco a more business-friendly environment for small businesses and examining city fees is part of that conversation.

Chiu also that the Office of Small Business is working with the City Controller’s Office to “think about streamlining fees” that remain on the books to help small businesses more easily navigate The City’s fee structure, therefore making it easier for them to pay and plan for the costs. Chiu made these comments Monday during testimony before the Small Business Commission.
