A Central Valley man who was staying at a Tenderloin hotel is fighting for his life after being stabbed in the back early Saturday, police said.

The 22-year-old Turlock resident and friends from Modesto were spending the night in a hotel in the 600 block of Polk Street, Officer Gordon Shyy said.

The victim had left the hotel alone without telling his friends where he was going. After noticing he was missing, the group went searching for him and found him shortly before 2 a.m.

He was on the nearby corner of Polk and Turk Streets “bent over, holding his torso” with stab wounds to the back and arm, Shyy said.

Investigators have not been able to interview the victim and are still searching for a suspect and the weapon used in the attack, said Shyy.
