Slowly (and we do mean slowly), the new Bay Bridge is starting to take shape, and on Monday, the rebuilt span will be one step closer to completion.
Construction crews will lift into place the fourth section of the span’s self-anchored suspension tower, the centerpiece of the new Bay Bridge. With the placement of the fourth section of the tower, the structure will stand at 480 feet, just short of the 525-foot mark the edifice will be once completed.
Work will begin on the tower in the early morning and is scheduled to continue around the clock on Monday, according to bridge officials. The $6.2 billion project is expected to be completed in 2013.
