Two men are being charged today after a shocking cellphone video allegedly showed the two East Palo Alto gang goons beating a child that appears to be younger than 5 years old with the loaded magazine of a handgun.
Parolees Wilbert Ard, 26, and Dwayne Henry, 20, are also accused of racking a round in the weapon in the February video as they threatened to shoot the boy and his father, a rival gang member.
Prosecutors said the cruel act was uncovered while police were arresting Ard and Henry for violating their parole terms by associating with each other. They are reportedly members of the notorious Taliban gang of East Palo Alto.
During the search, Ard allegedly possessed a cellphone that contained several videos, “one showing both suspects beating a very young boy” while his father wasn’t around, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said Tuesday. The boy appeared no older than 5 years old, Wagstaffe said.
The child and father in the video remain unidentified, Wagstaffe said. Forensic analysis of the phone reportedly revealed the video was made on Feb. 19.
Ard and Henry are scheduled to appear in court today for a preliminary hearing in the case. They are in custody on $250,000 bail, Wagstaffe said.
