Car crash sets off Daly City gas leak

A vehicle struck a gas meter at a Daly City apartment building Tuesday morning, rupturing a gas line and prompting evacuations, a PG&E spokesman said.

The leak was reported at 9:39 a.m. at 15 Poncetta Drive, off of John Daly Boulevard, a San Mateo County fire dispatcher said.

A vehicle struck a meter and broke a 2-inch gas line, PG&E spokesman Jason King said. PG&E received word of the situation at 9:48 a.m. and a repair crew arrived by 10 a.m., he said.

The roughly 55-unit building was evacuated until the flow of gas was stopped at 10:39 a.m., King said.
