Gov. Jerry Brown has signed SB606, which increases penalties for photographers caught snapping pics of celebrities’ kids without permission, or otherwise getting all up in the grills of fourth-graders for fun and profit.
“On behalf of my children,” Berry said in a press release quoted on Fox News, “it is my hope that this is the beginning of the end for those overly aggressive paparazzi whose outrageous conduct has caused so much trauma and emotional distress.” Journalists, however, are not thrilled about the new law, and the California Newspaper Publishers Association calls it “overly broad” and fears it will restrict legitimate newsgathering. In the meantime, photog-phobic Kanye West should invest in one of those daddy-baby carriers.
