Cal extends winning streak against Oregon to 12 

Freshman Jordan Mathews scored a career-high 32 points and the Cal men’s basketball team upset No. 17 Oregon 96-83 on Thursday. With the victory, the Bears extended their winning streak against the Ducks to 12 games, including six straight wins in Eugene, Ore.

The last Cal freshman to score 30 or more points in a game was Allen Crabbe, who scored 30 against Washington State on Jan. 13, 2011.

Justin Cobbs added 20 points and 11 assists as five Cal players scored in double figures.

Cal shot 52.5 percent from the floor and held Oregon to just 40.6 percent shooting.

OREGON STATE 81, STANFORD 72

Eric Moreland had 17 points, 15 rebounds and four blocks as Oregon State bested Stanford. Chasson Randle scored 30 points and Dwight Powell added 13 points and 10 rebounds for Stanford (9-5, 0-2).

USF 81, PACIFIC 72 (OT)

Avry Holmes finished with 18 points and eight assists, both career highs, as USF pulled away from Pacific in overtime. Matt Glover added 16 points, nine rebounds and five assists for the Dons (11-6, 4-1 West Coast Conference). USF outscored Pacific 18-9 in the extra frame. Andrew Bock scored 17 points to pace Pacific (9-6, 0-4).

SANTA CLARA 57, ST. MARY’S 55

Jared Brownridge drilled a 3-pointer with two seconds left to play to give Santa Clara a WCC win over St. Mary’s. The Gaels took the lead on a 3-pointer by Stephen Holt with 23 seconds left in the back-and-forth game. Brownridge finished with 23 points to lead Santa Clara (10-8, 3-2 WCC). Brad Waldow scored 17 points to pace the Gaels (13-4, 2-2 WCC).

WOMEN

PACIFIC 80, USF 67

Despite a game-high 29 points and 10 rebounds from Taylor Proctor, USF (7-8, 2-2 WCC) fell behind 48-27 at the half and could never recover.

ST. MARY’S 80, SANTA CLARA 70

Danielle Mauldin scored 24 points and pulled down 17 rebounds as the Gaels (13-3, 3-2 WCC) pulled away in the second half. Jo Paine led Santa Clara (6-9, 2-2 WCC) with 19 points.
